Celal Şengör Awarded the Arthur Holmes Medal & Honorary Membership of EGU

The Science Academy, Turkey member Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör was awarded the 2018 Arthur Holmes Medal & Honorary Membership of European Geosciences Union.

He will receive the medal at the EGU 2018 General Assembly, which will take place in Vienna on 8–13 April.

Science Academy’s full membership to ALLEA confirmed

The Science Academy has been admitted as a full member of ALLEA, the ALL European Federation of Academies, in the General Assembly of ALLEA held on Sep. 4 2017, in Budapest.
The Science Academy will continue to uphold academic principles in Turkey and contribute increasingly to ALLEA projects and working groups where our members were already active since our associate membership in 2014.

Statement of the Science Academy about the Ban on Wikipedia in Turkey

Blocking access to an encyclopedia that is used as a reference material at every level of education, and thus severing a channel of access to information deprives our society from information and open debate. Such an approach seriously undermines Turkey’s image in the 21st century.

Timothy Garton Ash, Istanbul Conference Video

The Science Academy welcomed world-renowned historian Prof. Timothy Garton Ash , in the second of its recently launched Annual Lectures. At the conference held on 16 February 2017 at Boğaziçi University, Prof. Garton Ash gave a lecture on free speech titles “Free Speech Under Attack”
