The Science Academy member Ayşe Buğra was awarded The World Academy of Sciences 2015 Celso Furtado Award for her contribution to research on social policy in emerging developing economies and globally, with a critical perspective on state-society-market relations in Turkey.

Biologist Aziz Sancar who is originally from Turkey won the Nobel prize for mapping and explaining how cells repair their DNA and safeguard the genetic information. He shares the Nobel prize with Tomas Lindahl and Paul Modrich.
