Mete Atatüre awarded the 2020 Thomas Young Medal and Prize

The Science Academy, Bilim Akademisi  member and Cambridge University faculty member Professor Mete Atatüre has won the 2020 Thomas Young Medal and Prize for his pioneering contributions to quantum optical phenomena in semiconductors and diamond, creating ‘exciting applications’ in quantum technologies. Pınar Mengüç Awarded Purdue University’s “Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award”

The Science Academy, Bilim Akademisi  member and Özyeğin University faculty member Prof. Dr. M. Pınar Mengüç was awarded the Purdue University “Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award”. The award will be given to Prof. Dr. Mengüç at a special ceremony to be held at Purdue University in the Spring Term of 2020 – 2021. Please click for further information.

Purdue University’s Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award, is one of the most prestigious awards given to its graduates, due to its outstanding achievements in their fields. Out of more than 30,000 Purdue Mechanical Engineering graduates, only 285 have been awarded so far.

Dani Rodrik is the 2020 recipient of the Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences

The Science Academy Turkey member Prof. Dani Rodrik is this year’s recipient of the Princess of Asturias Social Sciences Award.

According to the jury, Rodrik, 62, “has strengthened the rigor in the analysis of the dynamics of the globalization of international economic relations” and his conclusions have made the economic system “much more sensitive to the needs of society.”

IHRNASS Statement on Human Rights Concerns related to COVID-19

The International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies (IHRNASS) has issued a statement on human rights concerns related to Covid-19. (May 19, 2020)

Science Academy Turkey- Bilim Akademisi, strongly endorses this important statement as the rights to life and health care rely on the freedom of expression and freedom of information based on evidence. The inclusion of all in the protection of these rights, especially those forced into risk by necessity and by law, is a practical as well as a moral obligation.

Erol Gelenbe among IFIP’s first cohort of fellows
