Bilim Akademisi Report on Academic Freedoms 2020-2021 (Summary)

The Science Academy has been publishing reports on academic freedom since the year 2015, summarizing the developments and sharing them with the public. The report we have drafted this year is once more a compendium of outstanding violations of academic freedoms in our country. New President of Bilim Akademisi

Bilim Akademisi General Assembly (GA) that had been postponed three times due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the last 18 months, was finally held on June 17, 2021.  Bilim Akademisi founding president Prof. Dr. Ali Alpar handed over the task to our new president, Prof. Dr. Canan Atılgan who was elected during the GA.

Prof. Atılgan has been a member of Bilim Akademisi since 2012. Her research interests are polymer and protein dynamics, theoretical and computational investigation of complex molecular systems. (http://people.sabanciuniv.edu/canan/)

Zeynep Çelik among SAH Fellows

Science Academy Turkey – Bilim Akademisi member Zeynep Çelik is recognized  as a Fellow of Society of Architectural Historians.

The Board of Directors names as Fellows of the Society of Architectural Historians individuals who have distinguished themselves by a lifetime of significant contributions to the field. Engin Umut Akkaya receives the TWAS award in Chemistry

Science Academy, Turkey – Bilim Akademisi  member Prof. Dr. Engin Umut Akkaya receives the TWAS award in Chemistry.
Prof.Akkaya, who is currently a member of faculty in the Dalian University of Technology in China, received the award for “his fundamental contribution to the understanding of how inherent limitations of photodynamic therapy can be overcome” .

Metin Sitti awarded the «Breakthrough of the Year» Award at the Fallings Walls World Science Summi

Mete Atatüre awarded the 2020 Thomas Young Medal and Prize
