These days, a four-member delegation from Academia Sinica, Taiwan’s leading research institution, is traveling the world and engaging with academic communities.
As part of their visit to Turkey, the delegation met with Ankara University, Istanbul Technical University, and TÜBA (Turkish Academy of Sciences), before concluding this leg of their journey with a visit to Science Academy.
Before diving into the details of the meeting, let’s introduce the distinguished guests: President James C. Liao, Director of the Genomics Research Center Chih-Hao Lee, Director of International Affairs Tzu-Ching Meng, and International Affairs Officer Ren-Huei Huang. They were accompanied by First Secretary Hasan Chih-Tang Chang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Mission in Ankara.
Hosted Science Academy President Hakan S. Orer, the meeting took place on June 16 at Koç University’s Rumelifeneri Campus in a warm and collegial atmosphere that fostered mutual understanding. Orer shared the founding story of Science Academy, its core principles, and offered an overview of the academic freedom landscape in Turkey.
The Academia Sinica delegation provided insights into interdisciplinary research conducted in Taiwan, as well as their international programs. Their initiatives to support young researchers and their openness to global collaboration were particularly notable. The discussion also touched upon potential areas for concrete collaboration. Both academies are now exploring possible next steps.
